Read this book about three months ago and have been meaning to write a review. I have been keeping up with the blog since reading the book and that has been excellent as well. I have read several books on moving to Panama and hands down this is the best. The information about moving there in the book is critical and important to know and the book is open about the pitfalls and inconveniences that can occur. The best advice is to visit Panama before moving there and we plan to do just that soon. The book was an enjoyable read as well because the personal life of the author is weaved throughout the book and you are drawn into the ebb and flow of planning the move, moving there, and enjoying life together. It is hard to leave your home country but for the adventuresome there can be great reward and hopefully a second home. First off, I do not know nor have I ever met the author. My reasons for reading the book were a little different than most folks. I bought it out of laziness! I actually am already retired and living in Panama. I had already done all the things the author did to settle here, plus had a house built without the bad experiences many endure.So why did I buy the book? Well, many of my friends and acquaintances ask me about retiring to Panama and what the process is. I found this book summarizes just about everything I learned from countless hours of searching blogs, websites and Facebook groups without having to sort out the chaff of promoters trying to get into your pockets and Facebook trolls that have to turn every conversation into politics or bashing someone’s beliefs. While you can find all the information if you spend the time searching the internet, this book can save you countless hours of research and becomes a great reference guide. So now when friends start asking questions I can just tell them “buy the book.”This is a quick read that does a good job summarizing the processes and also gives some insight into life in Panama. It also serves to give a small bit of history and gives good ideas of sights folks may want to visit, regardless of whether they want to move here permanently.I feel comfortable recommending this guide to any of my friends who are considering Panama. Like the author, I used no relocation services and recommend that anyone considering the move read this prior to considering a more substantial investment in a relocation tour. I did have the advantage of speaking Spanish and previous job postings in Venezuela and Colombia which prepared me well.
